Wire Saw Cutting: When and Why You Need It

When a wall saw or floor saw cannot go deep enough, wire sawing takes over. Here's what it is, how it works, and when it's the right choice.

What Is Wire Saw Cutting?

Wire saw cutting uses a continuous loop of diamond-impregnated wire threaded through pre-drilled guide holes and pulled under tension by a drive pulley. As the wire travels through the concrete, the diamonds grind through both the concrete and any steel reinforcement. Because the wire is flexible, it can cut virtually any shape and to practically any depth — there is no blade-size depth limit.

When Wire Sawing Is the Right Choice

Wire sawing becomes the method of choice when other diamond saws hit their limits. Typical scenarios include.

  • Thick foundations and pile caps beyond wall-saw depth
  • Heavily reinforced beams and columns
  • Mass concrete structures and bridge sections
  • Confined spaces where a track or floor saw cannot fit
  • Irregular or curved cuts that a straight blade cannot make

How Deep Can a Wire Saw Cut?

Unlike a wall saw (limited to around 730mm from one side) or a floor saw, a wire saw has effectively no depth limit. If you can thread the wire through it, the wire can cut it. This makes wire sawing the only practical method for very thick or heavily reinforced concrete sections on Dubai construction and demolition projects.

Low Vibration and Dust Control

Like other diamond methods, wire sawing is a grinding process — not percussive. It produces very low vibration, protecting surrounding structures and finishes. Water is used to cool the wire and suppress dust, keeping the work area clean and safe. This makes it suitable for use in occupied or sensitive buildings where breaking would be unacceptable.

Planning a Wire Saw Project

Wire sawing requires pre-drilled guide holes to thread the wire through, so it is usually planned in advance rather than improvised on site. Our team assesses the structure, plans the cut lines and guide holes, and sequences the removal safely — especially important for load-bearing sections.
